David Wilkerson has died today in a tragic car crash, according to a CBN report. He was founder of World Challenge, pastor of the world-famous Times Square Church and author of one of the most influential and evangelical books in history “The Cross and the Switchblade.”

Pastor Wilkerson was a general in God’s Army. From teens to adults, whites, blacks and Hispanics, this man didn’t see shades – he saw souls. And that was clearly evident with his undying work with Teen Challenge, and his pioneering church in the heart of New York City.

Crash Details

Wilkerson was driving east on U.S. 175 in Texas Wednesday afternoon, and moved into the opposite lane where a tractor trailer was driving westbound. The truck driver saw the car and tried to move out of the way, but still collided with the pastor’s car head on, according to Public Safety Trooper Eric Long.

It’s unclear what caused Wilkerson to veer into the other lane.  His wife Gwen was also involved in the crash and rushed to the hospital, along with the truck driver.

Wilkerson was pronounced dead on the scene.

David Wilkerson was 79 years old, He is survived by his wife, four children and 11 grandchildren.

  1. I remember David Wilkersons “fellowship meeting in the Fallen Timber A/G Church” in 1958=sharing his burden of NYC gangs and his experience going there to the trial of gang members who murdered a handicapped boy, etc. “The beginning of TEEN CHALLENGE burden for Gangs”. =Pastor Harry Brotzman Jr (Bellwood A/G Church pastor in 1958).

  2. I was a born again Christian since 14 but kept backsliding. My parent foun out about Teen Challeng. This was around 2 years after it began and girls and boys were welcom. It was a beautiful experience. I met the greatest friends all trying to et delivered from drugs and alcohol. I never knew how exciting the Bible was. I thank God fo Pastor David Wikerson and he reallyloved Jesus.and wanted to see souls saved. You tube ,I believe may still have his recent sermo. I watch Son Life Broadcasting Network now with Jimmy, Francis, his son and grandson. It is great. He was devastated when Pastor Swaggart got the awful news. I domnot believe he suffered and I can assure on the bible that Pastor Wilkerson will be in Jesus arms. I just pray the new pastor doesn’t turn to false doctrine and keps the path that the beloved Pastor Wilkersson would run his services and keep helping the lost teens and souls. May God be with his family. He will always be remembered and I do not feel there could be a bad word to ever be said only that he set the example of Our Svior, Jesus Christ. Someday we all will meet again.
