Strong gusts of wind hit North Carolina’s Outer Banks, on November 24 amid a tornado warning for Dare County. The tornado warning was due to be in effect until 5.15 pm, WITN reported. A tornado was confirmed to have touched down in neighboring Morehead County on the same day, Weather Nation reported.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
- Take cover now.
- Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. - Avoid windows.
- If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris. - Please send your reports of wind and/or hail damage, including trees or large limbs downed, by calling the National Weather Service office in Newport at 1-800-889-6889.
- If on or near Pamlico Sound, get away from the water and move to safe shelter immediately
- If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Severe thunderstorms can produce large capsizing waves, even on small bodies of water.
- Move into dock and seek safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
Last year, a tornado warning was issued Monday morning for Dare County — in the area of Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk. The warning expired at 11:30 a.m.
