There can only be one “American Idol” winner each season. So, what happens to the other contestants?
Alex Lambert, who participated in the webseries “If I Can Dream” after his “Idol” run ended, began by noting that he “didn’t want to bring my person [sic] life to my fans but I’m about to freak out if I don’t tell yall the truth.”
“Ever since IICD ended I’ve been kinda homless! [sic]” he continued. “Sleepin on the street and behind buildings. I have a choice to stay and persue my career or go back to texas and not do music!”
The 20-year-old added that he’s “usually a strong person but I can’t take it anymore.”
The comments rapidly spread online, prompting confusion even from 19 Entertainment, which has a development deal with the singer.
“He’s not homeless,” a spokesperson told EW.com. “I don’t know where that came from.”
The rep also disputed Lambert’s claim that he’s a “poor boy.”
“He’s on a retainer, and he’s getting money every month,” the publicist said. “He’s working on demos. He’s with writers, he’s working on music.”
“He’s not homeless. How could he be texting? How could he be going into a recording studio and sleeping on the streets?” the rep said. “There’s no record deal yet, but, hopefully, these demos, something could come from that.”
After the clarification, Lambert returned to Twitter to express his “regret,” noting that his comments were just a “miscommunication.”
“I’ve had so much help out here in LA! I just want to do things on my own!” he explained. “I have places to stay I just don’t want to be a burden on anyone!”
“I have money! And soon I will have a place to stay!” Lambert continued. “I just wanted to let yall know! I’m not some rich spoiled kid! That I’ve had to hustle and grind and I don’t mind sleepin on the street as long as I get my chance!”
“I know alot of people think I tweeted my living situation for publicity!” Lambert wrote. “But I don’t give a damn about fame! I dont give a damn about money either! I have never had any and I’ve been just fine!
“I just wanted the people that loved me to know what was really goin on. I’m real!” the singer said. “And I don’t lie! and I would never lie to yall!”
