Brooklyn is known for its epic warehouse parties, but how about one in an airline terminal? For just $30 advance (on sale until Thursday night) or $40 at the door, Brooklyn party veterans Winkel and Balktick bring us W&B Airlines, an airport/TSA-themed celebration in Susnet Park. For those of you familiar with this summer’s Forbidden City, W&B Airlines will features similar installations by local artists and collectives as well as disco, house, techno and dubstep jams by the area’s popular DJs.Tickets are available at http://wandbnyc.com/airlines/.
Manhattan is really where the party is at. While The Standard Hotel is offering a black tie affair and concert by Marianne Faithfull upstairs for $250, for those of us who just want to dance, they are also hosting Nouveau York’s party, DFA Records NYE at Le Bain. Featuring performances by Holy Ghost, House of House and Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem, the party is sure to please disco-happy hipsters who have extra money to spend on a great New Years bash. While advanced GA tickets are sold out, door tickets are still available for $50.
GBH, who puts together tons of major concerts and dance gigs, is hosting their own New Year’s at Drom, located on Avenue A between 5th and 6th Streets in the East Village. Drom is a cozy downstairs lounge perfect for a more intimate experience while you dance to rock, electro, hip-hop and mashups. Advacned GA tickets are available for a limited time online for just $20, leaving more than enough cash for you to attack the bar before midnight—oh, and don’t forget the open vodka bar from 9-10!
Cheap drinks and cool parties are always available on the Lower East Side, and New Year’s Eve is no exception. It looks like The Skinny has a 24-hour liquor license for the occasion and are offering an optional $40 open bar from 10PM to 2AM, which means the LES is a great stop anytime throughout the night (or morning) of your festivities. Many locations have extended licenses throughout the city, making this party a hard one to end, but be warned that it also means the crowds will start to pile in as regular establishments shut down.
The most affordable party, however, is at the Beer Garden at Studio Square, located in Long Island City, Queens. For just a $10 cover, the garden features screens broadcasting the ball drop as well as live DJs and party favors to get you in the festive mood. While the party may not be as extravagant as a Manhattan night club, the garden is sure to offer a low-key alternative to the commotion of a mega-party. They also have a great list of draft beers available in affordable liters and pitchers to share among friends.
