The aroma of sizzling sausage and buttery kettle corn wafted through the air Friday afternoon during the annual Oklahoma Mennonite Relief Sale at Chisholm Trail Pavilion.
Shoppers waded through booths stocked with holiday crafts, quilts, books, apple butter and homemade pie during the sale’s first day of operation.
Luella Unruh, advertising chair, said the sale is a fundraiser for the relief program the Mennonite Church is involved in.
Friday evening there was a smoked-pork-loin dinner, a church music group performed and quilts and crafts were auctioned off to the highest bidders. There will be a $5 pancake and sausage breakfast 7-9:30 a.m. today. All booths open at 8 a.m. Craft and quilt auctions begin at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively, and at noon, the People’s Choice Quilt will be auctioned.
Ten Thousand Villages has been a longtime participant in the Mennonite sale.
