Candi Holyfield, the wife of former boxing great and four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, has filed for a temporary protection order from her husband, according to CNN.
Citing court documents, the report says that Candi accused Evander of acts of violence that include “choking, hitting and throwing a bottle of water at her.”
“He told me that I was only thinking about myself,” Candi stated in the document, according to the Journal-Constitution. “He started telling me that I needed to start putting God first in my life.”
[After the alleged assault], he got up and turned the light on and started looking at my face and told me he was sorry, that he knew he shouldn’t have done that,” Candi said in the court document.
The Journal-Constitution also reports that Evander hung up on a reporter when reached by telephone.
The couple has been married since 2003. Candi is Evander’s third wife, and her requested protective order asks that Evander come no closer than 500 yards of her.
