“We Are The World“, the 1985 dong takes place in tragic earthquake in Haiti. The new version will now benefit the impoverished country, and the recording date has changed to Monday, February 1, which is the day following the Grammys, sources told Billboard. This “We Are The World” new version will be re-recording by producer Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie, who co-wrote the song with the late Michael Jackson on January 28, the 25th anniversary. Some artists like Usher, Natalie Cole,and John Legend have reportedly been invited to participate.
Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich is said to be the producer for the event to take place at the Nokia Theater. There are talks of the recording being made into a music video and single like the original. The first recording is for Africa where twenty-two additional celebrities appeared in the video, including Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Jackson, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Ray Charles.The album is also entitled We Are The World.
